Dengue on the rise in Coimbatore claiming two lives; Health Dept. intensifies preventive measures

Coimbatore: The District Health Board has intensified the process of dengue prevention in Coimbatore with cases currently at 27 and two deaths.

The door-to-door inspection of houses for dengue has intensified. Two children succumbed to the flu in Chinnavedampatti and Periyanegamam area, and the city currently has a total of 27 cases, 21 in Corporation areas and 6 from rural areas.

The Corporation and Rural Health Department officials stated, "Rains have ceased presently but stagnant water will breed more dengue-causing mosquitoes. The incidence of dengue fever has increased. A total of 27 persons, 21 in the Corporation areas and 6 in rural areas are being treated for dengue fever.”

About 800 employees are engaged in house-to-house inspection and an additional 200 staff have been appointed as dengue fever is now on the rise. Houses, business complexes, factories and educational institutions will be inspected for the presence of dengue-causing elements and fine is to be imposed if anything is found.

Corporation health workers will sprinkle abate in neighbourhoods which prevents mosquito larvae worms from breeding. Thus far, a fine of Rs.1,65,000 has been imposed on houses, educational institutions and commercial establishments for waterlogging. Two staff per village and 10 staff in town panchayats are engaged in dengue prevention measures. They are also advised to inspect door-to-door for waterlogging. With the Covid cases gradually decreasing, new dengue cases have raised concerns.
