Fake News Alert: Rightwing Malayalam YouTube channels spread fake news about Coimbatore college students celebrating the death of CDS Bipin Rawat

Coimbatore’s Nehru College students’ fresher’s day video spread as though they were celebrating the death of CDS Bipin Rawat with a malicious intent. The intelligence departments of TN Police and college administration have debunked the video and will take legal action against these channels. The video also continuously portrays Coimbatore college students being in the grip of religious bigotry and terrorist activity. Widely condemned by locals of Coimbatore.

Coimbatore: While the whole country was mourning the death of India’s Chief of Defense Staff, Bipin Rawat and 12 others in the unfortunate chopper crash, defamatory allegation on college students in Coimbatore and in general trying to portray Tamilnadu as being against Indian sovereignty has been floating around.

Of note in particular, videos of college students from Coimbatore’s Nehru College were shown as though they were celebrating CDS General Bipin Rawat and 12 others’ death. The video is allegedly of fresher’s celebrations taken earlier and was maliciously circulated in social media and WhatsApp as though Coimbatore college students have been celebrating the unfortunate death.

The video goes on to allege that celebrations happened in Coonoor, Ooty, Thudiyalur, Peelamedu and Kuniyamuthur with a clear malicious intent to defame Coimbatore and Tamilnadu in general. This video was taken seriously and was used by other right wingers in social media to question TN during this time.

It is to be noted that TN govt has arrested another right wing YouTuber Maridhas who was maliciously accusing the ruling govt of creating Tamilnadu into a Kashmir exactly at the same time using the death of CDS Bipin Rawat in a chopper crash.

The Coimbatore Police Intelligence Bureau department investigated the matter and revealed that the named college was closed on the day of the crash and the video of the college annual day celebrations held a certain period before was misrepresented and was an edited with the death of CDS General.

The college administration through a release from their Director has said that, “our college was founded by a retired airforce officer and that many of the staffs of the college are from defence background. This is an attempt to malign the student community of Coimbatore and the college’s brand name by vested interests.”

The college has also shared the images from their homage to CDS Bipin Rawat by the students.

The Kerala police authorities have also been informed about the same and the district police are also taking steps to issue notices to the concerned social media channel.
