Coimbatore district administration to tighten grip across city as public venture out indifferent to Covid safety protocols

The district administration is planning on increasing the number of flying squads to monitor people in Coimbatore as public crowds in major areas of Coimbatore roam freely despite pandemic concerns.

Coimbatore: The Coimbatore district administration is planning on increasing the number of flying squads to monitor people in Coimbatore since crowds in the main areas of the city are moving freely without following Covid protocols, totally devoid of any fear of the Covid variants.

With the decrease in the incidence of Covid-19 infections, the public has begun freely stepping out of the confines of their homes and thronging areas like Oppanakara Street, Crosscut Road, Town Hall, 100 ft Road and Gandhipuram.

Hence, the district administration stated that plans are afoot to increase the number of flying squads across the city to keep a close watch on whether Covid guidelines are being followed by the blissfully indifferent public. 20 Flying Squads have been formed by the Corporation to monitor crowds. Apart from this, committees will be constituted under the chairmanship of the Revenue Department, the police and various department officials. In particular, textile shops in market areas, and commercial locations are being urged to follow the guidelines of the Government.

"Public gatherings should be avoided to avoid spread and only those who have been administered two doses of vaccination have been advised to venture out into public places. Officers will be appointed on rotation basis in the bazaars. Now, we are planning to increase the number of flying squads,” revealed a Corporation official.
