This year the Fifth Siddha Day is to be celebrated on 23rd December 2021. In commemoration of this, A National Conference on “Strength of Siddha Medicine for Communicable Diseases” was jointly organized by Central Council for Research in Siddha, National Institute of Siddha and Directorate of Indian Medicine & Homeopathy, Government of Tamil Nadu.
Coimbatore: Every year, Ministry of AYUSH has decided to observe Siddha day on eve of Agathiyar’s birthday which falls during the Ayilyam star of Margazhi Month.
This year the Fifth Siddha Day is to be celebrated on 23rd December 2021. In commemoration of this, A National Conference on “Strength of Siddha Medicine for Communicable Diseases” was jointly organized by Central Council for Research in Siddha, National Institute of Siddha and Directorate of Indian Medicine & Homeopathy, Government of Tamil Nadu.
Professor Dr.R.Meenakumari, Director, National Institute of Siddha welcomed the guest gathering. The participants of the conference included esteemed dignitaries, Siddha doctors, faculty members and students from various colleges including Siddha Medical Colleges. Professor Dr.K.Jagannathan, President, Board of Unani, Siddha and Sowa Rigpa, National Commission for Indian Medicine (NCISM) delivered the felicitation address. Dr. Lieutenant Colonel A. Ravi Kumar, Pro-Vice Chancellor, Medical and Health Sciences, SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Professor Dr. A. Nirmala, Dean, Coimbatore Medical College delivered the thematic addresses highlighting the importance of multi-disciplinary collaborative research in the current pandemic era.
Professor Dr. A. S. Krishnamoorthy, Registrar and acting Vice chancellor, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore gave the special address emphasizing the significance of the preserving the native (indigenous) agricultural and medicinal plant species for the years to come. Ganesh Director, Directorate of Indian Medicine & Homoeopathy, Government of Tamil Nadu gave the Chief Guest address. He spoke how the collaborative research efforts between the Directorate of Indian Medicine & homeopathy, Central Council for Research in Siddha and National Institute of Siddha is bearing fruits for curbing the menace of communicable diseases through Siddha medicine.
Professor Dr. K. Kanakavalli, Director General, Central Council for Research in Siddha proposed the vote of thanks. Scientific events for encouraging students’ included plenary lectures, oral and poster presentations on the theme ‘Strength of Siddha system for Communicable Diseases’ were organised. Students participated in cultural programmes.
This National Conference will be closely followed by Siddha Day celebration on 23rd December, 2021 at Chennai Trade Centre, Nandambakkam, Chennai.
