Mascot ‘Chippy’ launched for 14th Coimbatore Festival to be held from Jan. 2 to 9, 2022

The 14th Coimbatore Festival is all set to happen between January 2 to 9 next year and the launch of the mascot 'Chippy' was a preview event for the festival.



Coimbatore: The 14th Coimbatore Festival is scheduled to take place from January 2 to 9 and a mascot 'Chippy' has been launched as a preview event for the festival.

The Coimbatore Festival has been conducted since 2009 to showcase the glorious heritage of Coimbatore and the cultural events of the district among the people of Coimbatore. The festival observed in the first week of the month usuall, has various programs.



The event was held virtually in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Now that the spread of Covid-19 infection is under control, the organizing team has decided to celebrate the Coimbatore Festival with Covid safety guidelines. Various programmes have been organized from January 2 to 9 to mark the 14th year of the festival.



Additionally, the organizers have planned to conduct the event at the bank shores renovated under the smart city projects. Arts, education, industry, sports, entertainment, business and hospitality will be the various themes and a preview of the festival was held at Valankulam Park Ukkadam. District Collector G S Sameeran and CCMC Commissioner Raja Gopal Sunkara were present on the occasion to launch the Mascot symbol named 'Chippy' based on the Emerald Dove, a bird in the state of Tamil Nadu.



Speaking on the occasion, CCMC Commissioner Raja Gopal Sunkara stated that such festivals become an identity of big cities and will gain global fame. The Distrct Collector G S Sameeran expressed that these events collaborating public and industrialists excites much than Governmental functions.



As part of the Coimbatore festival, an exhibition of electric vehicles, colour displays, painting roads, cooking competitions, marathons and bicycle competitions will be held. For the first time this year, paralympics competitions, agricultural exhibitions and music programmes of college students will also be held in which the differently-abled will participate. 120 types of programmes including special career programmes to encourage new entrepreneurs are to be held.
