After a thorough inspection on Omicron safety measures, the Health Minister, M Subramaniam stated that TN had enough medical facilities to deal with the variant.
Coimbatore: The Tamil Nadu Health Minister, M Subramanian inspected the Coimbatore International Airport on Thursday with regard to safety measures implemented at the airport to screen international passengers.
The Tamil Nadu Health Minister, M Subramanian on Thursday stated that Tamil Nadu had enough medical framework to tackle the Omicron variant, which has been a major concern lately. He inspected the Coimbatore International Airport and later briefed the media.
"The Chief Minister advised expediting precautionary measures upon receiving the news on the variant. While there have been many types of viral metamorphosis, the Corona has also mutated. An inspection was held at the Madurai and Trichy airports, and followed also at the Coimbatore airport. People from 'high risk' countries are tested with RT-PCR and a thorough check-up. The passengers will then be on a home quarantine but there is currently no need for inter-state traffic restrictions," stated Minister M Subramanian.
"Tamil Nadu has been a model state in the country for vaccination, wherein 78 % have been inoculated with the first dose and 44 % percent with the second. Moreover, Coimbatore stands first in inoculation. The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu has been spreading awareness on the significance of vaccination. Free testing is done on behalf of the Government of Tamil Nadu for economically backward people. Currently, 617 people are being treated in hospitals for dengue. Also, there are no cases of Omicron in Tamil Nadu. Tamil Nadu has a genetic testing laboratory to be developed at a cost of Rs.4 crores and necessary medical framework is available to deal with the Omicron virus," assured the Minister.
Coimbatore International Airport Director, Senthil Valavan, Tamil Nadu Health Secretary, Dr. Radhakrishnan, Coimbatore District Collector, G S Sameeran, CCMC Commissioner, Raja Gopal Sunkara and other officials were present.
