Assistant Executive Engineer in the Ooty Rural Development Department sentenced7-year jail term and a fine of ₹ 9,000 for accepting bribe

The Ooty Court pronounced that the rural development assistant engineer should serve 7-years in jail for proven charges of corruption.


The Nilgiris: Rural Development assistant executive engineer gets 7 years of imprisonment over charges of receiving a bribe of ₹ 9000.

The Ooty court has sentenced that the Assistant Executive Engineer of Rural Development has to serve 7 years in prison for proven charges of accepting a bribe from a contractor over the release of documents.

Arumugasamy is an Assistant Executive Engineer in the Ooty Rural Development Department. A library building was constructed under the MGRY scheme in 2008 at Cherambadi near Gudalur. The Contractor Chandra Bose was carrying out the construction work.

Reportedly Arumugasamy demanded a bribe of ₹ 9,000 from the contractor in order to release documents and the certificates post-completion.

Arumugasamy was caught red-handed as the contractor paid ₹ 9,000 to Arumugasamy on September 18, 2008, and a case was registered against Arumugasamy. The trial was underway at the sub-court in Ooty and the judge sentenced Arumugasamy to seven years imprisonment and a fine of ₹ 10,000 for accepting ₹ 9,000 bribe.
