Sanitary worker contract salary case hearing adjourned to 28th

Hearing of the case related to the implementation of the Ordinance to pay a monthly salary of Rs.16,725 has been adjourned to the 28th.

Coimbatore: Hearing of the case related to the implementation of the Ordinance to pay a monthly salary of Rs.16,725 has been adjourned to the 28th.

Coimbatore Corporation employs more than 3,000 sanitary workers on a daily basis. The daily wage for the section of workers, for once a year, is calculated by the District Collector, who calculates and announces the current salary.

Accordingly, the respective local bodies have to pay the workers. Although the daily wage is fixed at Rs.475, those who work in the Corporation are paid Rs.9000-10000 after pf deductions.

During the last AIADMK regime, the Tamil Nadu government ordered to pay 16,725 rupees as the monthly salary to the contract workers.

Without enforcing that order, the corporation administration put it on hold. Trade union representatives urged for respective implementation. Tamil Nadu Annal Ambedkar Health Cleaners and Public Employees Union have appealed to the office of the Joint Commissioner of Labour.

The case came up for hearing yesterday. However, due to the absence of Associate Commissioner Sivagami, it was announced that the case has been rescheduled to 28th citing administrative reasons.
