Bus services resume from Coimbatore to Kerala after 21 months

Passengers are overjoyed that bus services from Coimbatore to Kerala have finally resumed after 21 months.

Coimbatore: Bus services from Tamil Nadu to other states were suspended in March 2020 as soon as the Covid-19 pandemic hit India. Even when lockdown restrictions were relaxed after the second wave, buses were diverted to Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh but not operated directly from Tamil Nadu to Kerala since there was widespread infection of Covid-19 in Kerala.

Thus people could travel between the two states only by trains. Travellers from Coimbatore to Palakkad had to travel by Tamil Nadu buses to Walayar or Velandavalam on the two-state border and from there they had to board Kerala buses to places like Palakkad.

Frequent travellers between the two states had demanded that bus services be resumed ever since fresh cases of Covid-19 had declined in both states. The Tamil Nadu Government has now announced relaxation of lockdown restrictions and are allowing buses to ply from Tamil Nadu to Kerala. Following the announcement by the Government, bus services from Coimbatore to Kerala resumed on Wednesday, after 21 months, leaving passengers delighted. Nevertheless, most of the buses were seen without much passengers. For the safety of the passengers, sanitizers have been provided and Covid-19 testing is being carried out on behalf of the Corporation.
