International air Passengers need to wait for 4 hours for RTPCR test result at the Coimbatore International Airport

Coimbatore District Collector GS Sameeran said at the Coimbatore airport due to the spread of the Omicron virus, passengers coming from abroad have to wait for 4 hours for the completion of the RTPCR test.



Coimbatore: District Collector GS Sameeran and Corporation Commissioner Rajagopal Sungara today personally inspected the corona virus prevention activities at the Singanallur bus stand in Coimbatore.



They also inspected the dengue prevention activities in the bus stand area.



District Collector Sameeran then advised passengers who boarded buses to wear face masks.

District Collector, who was interviewed after the inspection, said vaccination initiative in Coimbatore is in full swing. He said the corona virus damage, which was high in Coimbatore, is currently under control. Corona virus infection is reported to occur in more than 100 people daily. The use of face masks by the public has been declining recently. He said the district administration is taking steps again to create awareness about the importance of face masks.

He said that Omicron virus which is the new variant of corona virus infection is spreading abroad. He confirmed that the latest variant has not been detected in our country yet. But as a precautionary measure, RTPCR is done at the Coimbatore airport for those coming to Coimbatore from abroad. Passengers are said to be sent out as soon as the test results come out. The District Collector said that all passengers on the Air Arabia flight from Sharjah to Coimbatore, especially in the early hours of the morning, would have to wait for at least 4 hours at the airport for RTPCR check-in and leave the airport only after the test results came out.

He also said that 9,000 corona tests were being conducted daily in Coimbatore district to create awareness among the people about the need to wear a mask and fines are imposed on the public for not wearing a mask. Due to the Omicron virus, District Collector Sameeran said that they are planning to set up another camp in the Walayar area bordering the Coimbatore district and step-up surveillance.
