The central government has reduced the tax on petrol by Rs.5 and the tax on diesel by Rs.10. As a result, various organizations have been blaming the Tamil Nadu government for not reducing petrol and diesel prices while various other states have.

More than 50 members of the BJP protested, demanding that the Tamil Nadu government reduces petrol and diesel prices. The protestors stated that there is a risk that the rise in petrol and diesel prices will increase the prices of essential commodities and affect daily life. Petrol and diesel prices are rising day by day.

In particular, the central tax on petrol, which was Rs.9.20 in 2014, will increase to Rs.32.90. Similarly, the central tax on diesel was raised from Rs.3.46 in 2014 to Rs.31.80 in 2021. In the last seven years alone, the central government has raised taxes on petrol by 258 percent and diesel by 819 percent. Meanwhile, the central government has reduced the tax on petrol by Rs.5 and on diesel by Rs.10.

However, more than 50 BJP workers today staged a protest in front of the Coimbatore District Collector's Office, asking why the Tamil Nadu government had not reduced the price.
