MP PR Natarajan condemns Coimbatore-Palani train minimum fare hike

The passenger train from Coimbatore to Palani resumed operation as express train on Wednesday, with the minimum fare of ₹.30, which the Coimbatore MP PR Natarajan condemned.

Coimbatore: The Coimbatore MP PR Natarajan condemned the minimum fare from Coimbatore to Palani hiked to ₹.30 which was earlier ₹.10.

The passenger train services without pre-booking were halted during the pandemic and the services are gradually being resumed in the city.

As part of it, the passenger train from Coimbatore to Palani resumed service as an express train on Wednesday. The minimum fare which was ₹.10 has been now increased to ₹.30. The Coimbatore MP PR Natarajan condemned the price hike.

Coimbatore is the commercial capital of educational institutions, micro-enterprises, hospitals, and commercial institutions. Every day, thousands of people arrive and go out of the city for various purposes, through which the department generates excess revenue. The MP PR Natarajan stated that various facilities through the Constituency Development Fund were provided to Coimbatore and North Coimbatore Railway Station, in his two-time service period.

He added that “Due to my continuous efforts, various rail services were extended from Coimbatore to various districts and states of Tamil Nadu. The Railway Station was also provided the Aadhaar status”

The MP said that he had written to the railways last month to resume services of all the trains as the pandemic subsided. He stated that the services from Coimbatore-Palani being resumed is a welcoming gesture, however, most people have lost their jobs and have been financially affected due to the pandemic. The price hike would affect the public and he thus demanded the minimum ticket fare be charged ₹.10 as it was earlier.

He also urged the railway department to resume all the train services at the earliest.
