She received congratulations from Corporation Commissioner Katta Ravi Teja IAS on August 31, 2026, after displaying the award. Sakunthala, Headteacher of Peelamedu Corporation Primary School, has been honored with the prestigious Anbasiriyar Award for Coimbatore district in the selection process conducted by Hindu Tamil Thisai newspaper. She displayed the award and received congratulations from Coimbatore Corporation Commissioner Katta Ravi Teja IAS on August 31, 2026.
More than 450 teachers from Tamil Nadu and Puducherry participated in the Anbasiriyar Award selection organized by Hindu Tamil Thisai newspaper. One teacher per district was selected for the Anbasiriyar Award. K. Sakunthala, Headteacher of Peelamedu Corporation Primary School, was selected for Coimbatore district.
She received the Anbasiriyar Award on August 29, 2026, from Human Resource Development Minister Dasarath Kumar in the presence of Dr. P. Chandramohan IAS, Additional Chief Secretary, School Education Department.
Criteria for the Award
The award was given based on criteria including improving school attendance percentage, increasing student enrollment, and achieving progress in student development through collaborative efforts of students, parents, and teachers.
Notable achievements include planting numerous saplings and trees in the school premises with students and volunteers to protect the environment and increase natural resources, and procuring additional materials needed for students and the school with the help of volunteers.
The qualifications also include engaging in additional activities beyond teaching, writing books for students, and the headteacher setting an example by encouraging students in sports such as badminton and carrom.
The Anbasiriyar Award is presented based on qualifications such as conducting School Management Committee meetings and parent meetings properly to enhance student welfare.
