Dengue on the rise due incessant rains: 8 people diagnosed with dengue fever affected in 8 days

In order to control the spread of dengue fever in Coimbatore district, district wise teams have been set up to carry out various preventive measures including dengue mosquito eradication, smoking and abatement. Dengue cases are being diagnosed in the early stage by the Rapid Response Team.


Coimbatore: Cases of dengue fever have spiked in Coimbatore district due to torrential rains and 8 people have been affected by dengue in the last 8 days.

It has been raining continuously in Coimbatore district for the last one week. This has increased the production of mosquitoes in various places in stagnant rainwater. As a result, the incidence of dengue has increased in Coimbatore district. In particular, from November 1 to November 8, the as many as 8 cases of dengue were reported.

In this connection, the Deputy Director of the Health Department P. Aruna said, “In order to control the spread of dengue in Coimbatore district, district wise teams have been set up to carry out various preventive measures including dengue mosquito eradication, smoking and abatement. Field staff is inspecting areas where cases of common cold are reported. Dengue cases are being diagnosed at the early stage by the Rapid Response Team. This reduces the number of vulnerabilities as preventive measures are expedited. No casualties have been reported so far from dengue in the district.”

“Dengue mosquito eradication personnel have been appointed panchayat wise and preventive measures are being taken. Despite the preventive measures being taken by the health department, the public must take responsibility and keep public places and houses clean without dumping waste. Water should not be stagnant near the house. Drinking boiled water can help control the spread of dengue by adopting hygienic measures.” She added that to prevent further cases it requires the cooperation of the general public.
