Rs 17 lakh swindled from an industrialist on the pretext of commission for purchasing machinery in Coimbatore

Mathew paid Rs. 17,17,114 as commission in 13 installments in the bank account number given by the seller. He then contacted his e-mail address and WhatsApp number but there was no answer to that. Coimbatore District Cyber Crime Police Inspector Jayadevi has registered a case and is conducting an investigation on the complaint lodged by Mathew.



Coimbatore: Rs 17 lakh was swindled from an industrialist on the pretext of commission for purchasing machinery.

Mathew (38) is from Sanganur Gandhiji Road, Ratnapuri, Coimbatore. He is a business man and runs a company in Ratnapuri that manufactures and sells coconut pulp extractors. He was advertising his company on websites.

He received an e-mail from Togo in West Africa in July last year. The email had directed Mathew to purchase the machinery manufactured in their company for Rs. 9 crore 50 lakhs and hand it over to a company for which commission of up to 2 percent will be paid. Also a WhatsApp was given to contact for more information. Believing this to be true, Matthew contacted the WhatsApp number.

The person on the other end said that Mathew has to pay a commission of Rs. 17 lakhs. Mathew paid Rs. 17,17,114 in 13 instalments in the bank account number given by him.
