Heavy downpour in 6 districts including Chennai due to low pressure. Chennai Meteorological Department has intimated that 10 districts including Coimbatore will receive heavy rainfall till the 11th.


Coimbatore: Heavy rains will continue to lash various parts of Tamil Nadu including Chennai, Kanchi, Cuddalore, Villupuram and Chengalpattu till the 11th the Met office informed.

The Southern Regional Chairman of the Indian Meteorological Center, Balachandran also conveyed the anticipated weather condition for the coming days.

A low pressure circulation is prevailing in the northern districts of Tamil Nadu and adjoining coastal areas. A low pressure area is likely to form in the south-eastern Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas tomorrow.

As a result of this, Chennai, Villupuram, Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam and Pondicherry will receive heavy to very heavy showers at one or two places today. Pudukottai, Ramanathapuram, Madurai, Theni, Dindigul, Tirupur, Karur, Trichy, Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Kallakurichi and Salem districts will receive heavy rainfall. Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi and Tenkasi districts will receive heavy rainfall with thunder and lightning tomorrow.

Thanjavur, Thiruvarur, Nagapattinam and Mayiladuthurai districts and Cuddalore, Ariyalur, Perambalur and Dindigul districts will receive heavy rainfall. On the 10th the northern coastal districts, will experience heavy to very heavy rains occasionally. Heavy rain is anticipated for southern districts and other districts are slated to receive moderate rainfall.

On the 11th, the northern coastal districts and the surrounding inner districts will receive heavy and sometimes very heavy rainfall. Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Erode, Krishnagiri and non-coastal districts will receive heavy rainfall. The delta districts of Thanjavur, Thiruvarur, Nagapattinam and Mayiladuthurai are also likely to receive heavy rains. A low pressure area is likely to form in the south-eastern Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas tomorrow.

Thus, fishermen fishing in the deep sea should return to shore by tomorrow. Due to the low pressure area, the south-western Bay of Bengal and the adjoining coastal areas of Andhra Pradesh still exist in the northern coastal areas; hurricane force winds of up to 60 kmph are expected in the southern Bay of Bengal and coastal areas of Central Bengal tomorrow.

In the coastal areas of Tamil Nadu, Kumari Sea, Gulf of Mannar, Andhra Pradesh and South West Bengal, hurricane force winds of up to 60 kmph are expected on the 10th and 11th. On certain days, fishermen are advised not to go to these areas. Chennai is expected to receive heavy rainfall today.

Heavy rain will continue in Chennai from last night till last night. Due to the circulation of the atmospheric overlay to Andhra Pradesh, Chennai will still receive heavy to very heavy rains in some places today. The Met Office has forecast heavy rains in some places.
