'Separate ward set up to treat patients with fever at Coimbatore GH:' Dr. Nirmala, Dean of GH

Dr. Nirmala advised the public against eating unsafe food and drinking contaminated water.

Coimbatore: A separate ward has been set up at the Coimbatore Government Hospital for the treatment of dengue fever due to the spread of dengue owing to water stagnation, in the wake of the Northeast monsoon rains in Coimbatore.

Dr. Nirmala, Dean of GH said, "Eating unsafe food and drinking contaminated drinking water during the rainy season can cause colds and diarrhea. An increase in mosquito breeding due to stagnant rain water could also lead to spread of both malaria and dengue fever. Currently, 3 to 6 people come to GH for treatment for viral fever owing to the monsoon period.

Subsequently, a separate ward for treating patients with fever has been set up at the Government Hospital since infections could increase in the coming days. Additional rooms will be opened out if needed. Doctors have been instructed to inspect whether there is a stock of medicines required for the treatment of fever and whether the test kits are functioning properly. If you have symptoms of the flu, do not self-medicate and go to the hospital immediately to be examined," advised Dr. Nirmala.
