Flower prices spike in Coimbatore owing to the festive season

The flower prices have spiked in Coimbatore on the occasion of Diwali festival which has hugely shocked the consumers.


Coimbatore: The cost of jasmine has spiked up to ₹.2000 per kg this Diwali season which has shocked the buyers in Coimbatore.

Recent rains and the festive season have caused a hike in the prices of flower varieties in the city. Jasmine was sold for ₹. 2,000 per kg in Coimbatore on Tuesday. The winter jasmine (Jadhipoo), and Mullai were sold for up to Rs.1200. Ghanera was sold for Rs 200 per kg, lily at Rs 200, and button rose for Rs 240. The Chrysanthemum flower was sold for Rs 80 per kg due to an increase in inflow yesterday. Similarly, a rose pack of 15 flowers was sold for Rs.150.

Flowers are brought to Coimbatore Flower Market from different parts including Sathyamangalam, Dindigul, Nilakottai, Hosur and other outlying areas including Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. Public and small vendors purchase flowers from the market. The recent rains across Tamil Nadu over the past two weeks have reduced the flow of flowers and this led to a hike in the price of flowers in the market yesterday.
