The Electricity Minister received petitions from the public in wards 5 to 11 in the West Zone of Coimbatore during the Sabha meeting.
Coimbatore: Makkal Sabha meeting was held on 1st November, Monday headed by the Tamil Nadu Electricity Minister, Senthil Balaji here. The minister received a total of 12,951 petitions from the public during the meeting.
As per the orders of the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, Makkal Sabha Meeting was organized in Coimbatore District to understand the demands of the public in their ward regions. The meeting held on Monday was chaired by the Tamil Nadu Electricity, Prohibition, and Excise Minister. Senthil Balaji. District Collector G.S. Sameeran took the lead. Corporation Commissioner and Special Officer, Raja Gopal Sunkara addressed gathering at the event. Members of Parliament and MLAs also delivered their address at the meeting.
The Minister received petitions in person from the public in West Zone. Corporation Middle School, Housing Unit, Mettupalayam Road in ward 9, Kalpana Marriage Hall, Kaundampalayam in ward 5, Government Higher Secondary School, Koundampalayam in Ward No.8, Angapa Higher Secondary School, Idayarpalayam in ward 6, Corporation Middle School, Idayarpalayam in Ward No.7, Corporation High School, K.K. Pudur, Ward No.11, Saibaba Matriculation School Saibaba Colony in Ward No.10.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister appreciated the District Collector for implementing the schemes introduced by the chief minister. He also appreciated the Corporation Commissioner for making arrangements to collect the petitions from 150 places, 100 wards in the corporation, and 50 places from the municipalities and panchayats for the Makkal Sabha Meeting.
He assured that the government officials of all the departments present in the district will examine the petitions expeditiously and implement the orders issued by the Chief Minister. Quoting it as a historic move, as per the orders of the Chief Minister, one region per ward for 100 wards will be visited in Coimbatore Corporation, the petitions will be received from the public and relevant solutions will be provided.
'The pensions of applicants in the city, who have not received will be soon facilitated with the old-age assistance under the Chief Minister’s rule,' he said. 'The requests, needs, and the issues of gold jewellery makers in Coimbatore will be brought to the Chief Minister’s attention and necessary steps shall be taken in this regard. According to the petitions received in the meeting, the drinking water is supplied every 9 days in regions within the corporation, and at least in over a week’s time water is supplied to all the areas in the city corporation.'
'In view of this, a special scheme has been formulated as per the orders of the Hon’ble Chief Minister to ensure that the entire Coimbatore Corporation will receive drinking water supply every 2 days and special funds will be taken up for improvement. The preparatory works are in process. Preparation of project estimates is being carried out on behalf of the Corporation administration and the Civil Services Board.'
The minister further stated that the blockages in the canals will be cleared and assured that funds shall be received, preparations shall be done to completely implement the underground sewerage scheme. He then stated that the roads in the corporation shall be inspected and special funds will be received to repair the roads and resolve them soon.
'Out of the 505 promises made by the chief minister in his election manifesto, 202 are fulfilled in a span of 5 months. The ₹4,000 relief assistance for ration cardholders and the 14 types of goods have been provided free of cost during the pandemic. Petrol prices and Aavin milk prices have been reduced, women have been provided free of cost travel in Government buses. The Hon’ble Chief Minister will provide various special schemes in all the 234 constituencies including 10 constituencies in the district for its development. All the demands of those who submitted their petitions will certainly be met by the respective departments.'
Deputy Commissioner of Municipal Corporation M. Shamila, former Singanallur MLA N. Karthik, former Town Panchayat President, Paiya Krishnan, Assistant Commissioner of West Zone T. Sivasubramaniyan, and corporation officials and a large number of members of the public were present on the occasion.
