PWD survey states groundwater level increased in Coimbatore and Nilgiris, dropped in Tirupur

Based on the monthly analysis conducted by the Public Works Department, the groundwater level in Coimbatore and Nilgiris has increased while it has dropped in Tirupur.


Coimbatore: Groundwater level has increased in Coimbatore and Nilgiris districts according to a Public Works Department (PWD) survey.

The PWD’s survey report states that the groundwater level in Tirupur has dropped.

The PWD conducts a monthly survey and reports to the Government on the groundwater level across districts in Tamil Nadu. It is reported that the groundwater level in eight districts has fallen this October, compared to the groundwater level in October the previous year. The groundwater level in Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Namakkal, Erode, Tuticorin, and Tirupur has dropped.

The groundwater level in Tirupur has fallen by 0.39 meters over the previous year. Groundwater availability has increased in other districts, with groundwater level in Coimbatore district rising to 9.66 meters this year from the previous year. The groundwater level in Nilgiris has risen by 0.28 meters.
