Prevention methods intensified as 23 affected with Dengue in a month in Coimbatore

The city health department is in the process of curbing the spread of Dengue in Coimbatore and penalties are imposed as 23 people were affected within a month’s time.


Coimbatore: Twenty-three people in Coimbatore city have been diagnosed with Dengue within a month. The district health department along with the local bodies and Education department to control the spread.

Dengue fever is on the rise in Coimbatore city and suburban areas. Dengue is transmitted by the Aedes Mosquitoes. The health authorities are in the process of identifying the places of mosquito breeding (Aedes mosquitoes) and imposing penalties on those letting water stagnant in the areas.

The Health Department, along with the local bodies and the Education Department are working to control the fever. Coimbatore Municipal Corporation Health Officer Satish Kumar has stated,

“Special Committees are stationed in 12 regions on behalf of the Health Department, to control the incidence of Dengue in the district. The corporation has intensified dengue prevention processes here in the city after twenty-three people contracted dengue fever in a month. The special committee will inspect, identify and prevent the mosquito breeding.”

The Deputy Director of Health, Coimbatore district said, “Dengue fever cases have increased in the city and suburban areas and various measures are being taken to control this. As part of it, a special committee has been constituted to identify and prevent dengue mosquito breeding. The team has visited all areas and imposed penalties on those who let water stay stagnant, violating the legal norms.”

Necessary facilities have been facilitated in primary health centres in government hospitals to treat patients with dengue fever.
