Citizen Voice Club Coimbatore demands that the Union Government must do away with the guidelines for discarding all vehicles that are manufactured and running for 15 years and more. According to the association such a policy decision will only help business houses involved with the automobile industry.
Coimbatore: In a press release Citizen Voice Club Coimbatore stated that the Union Government must do away with the guidelines for discarding all vehicles that are manufactured and are on road for 15 years and more.
Failure on the part of the vehicle owners to discard such vehicles will attract re-registration fee up to 800 percent (8 times).This is received with rude shock and disbelief by millions of vehicle owners.This, in view, of the organization has come as a bolt from the blue.
They said for a developing country like India, already suffering from adverse economic events like the Covid 19 pandemic, this will further burden the financial situation of the common man. Such a policy decision will only help business houses involved with the automobile industry.
The release said, "Our tradition and culture shows that vehicles as old as 20/25 yrs and even 30 yrs are well maintained and regularly used by the vehicle owners.This is the same with all the third world countries.We would urge the government to shelve the idea as it would help the common consumer immensely.On the contrary, if the government persists with the idea of abolishing vehicles for more than 15 years, this would only directly or indirectly help money mongering big business houses, at the peril of the common man."
They release expressed hope the government would reconsider and drop such an initiative. At best, the manufacturers are advised to fine tune or recalibrate the heavy and commercial vehicle for road worthiness by the same manufacturers or his authorized/ approved recalibration centre strictly twice a year. “Considering the foregoing and the heavy adverse economic impact the policy decision will have on the vehicle owners, we urge the Union Government to shelve the policy forthwith,” the press release read.
