COVID-19: TN posts 5,406 recoveries and 5,337 new cases

Coimbatore: Tamil Nadu on Tuesday posted 5,337 fresh cases of COVID-19 and 76 related fatalities, taking the total number of infections past 5.50 lakh to 5,52,674 and the State toll to 8,947, according to the State Health Department media bulletin.

The day also saw 5,406 patients getting discharged after recovery from various hospitals across the State.

As of September 20, cumulatively 5,52,674 COVID-19 positive cases have been confirmed in the state, which include 8,947 deaths and 4,97,377 discharges, the Health Department said in its bulletin.

Of the new cases reported today, 989 were from State Capital Chennai.

Among the districts where a higher number of cases were reported, Coimbatore accounted for 595, Salem 291, Cuddalore 233, Chengalpattu 231, Thiruvallur 230 and Kancheepuram 209.

Tirupur logged a record single-day spike of 368 cases while the Nilgiris went below 100 and posted 88.

According to the bulletin, the number of active cases stood at 46,350.

A total of 66,40,058 samples have been tested till date of which a whopping 84,730 were tested over the last 24 hours.
