COVID-19: TN posts 5,344 new cases, 5,492 discharges and 60 deaths

Coimbatore: Tamil Nadu on Monday posted 5,344 fresh cases of COVID-19 and 60 related fatalities, taking the total number of infections to 5,47,337 and the State toll to 8,871, according to the State Health Department media bulletin.

The day also saw 5,492patients getting discharged after recovery from various hospitals across the State.

Of the new cases reported today, 982 were from State Capital Chennai.

As of September 20, cumulatively 5,47,337 COVID-19 positive cases have been confirmed in the state, which includes 8,871 deaths and 4,91,971 discharges, the Health Department said in its bulletin.

Among the districts where a higher number of cases were reported, Coimbatore accounted for 648, Salem 295, Chengalpattu 219 and Thiruvallur 212.

Tirupur logged 161 cases and at 122, the single-day bump at Nilgiris stayed above 100 for the second consecutive day.

According to the bulletin, the number of active cases stood at 46,495.

A total of 65,55,328 samples have been tested till date of which a whopping 80,672 were tested over the last 24 hours.
