COVID-19: TN posts 5,516 new cases, 5,206 discharges and 60 deaths

Coimbatore: Tamil Nadu on Sunday posted 5,516 fresh cases of COVID-19 and 60 related fatalities, taking the total number of infections to 5,41,993 and the state toll to 8,811, according to the State Health Department media bulletin.

The day also saw 5,206 patients getting discharged after recovery from various hospitals across the State.

Of the new cases reported today, 996 were from State Capital Chennai.

As of September 20, cumulatively 5,41,993 COVID-19 positive cases have been confirmed in the state, which includes 8,811 deaths and 4,86,479 discharges, the Health Department said in its bulletin.

Among the districts where a higher number of cases were reported, Coimbatore accounted for 568, Chengalpattu 283, Thiruvallur 207, Salem 291 and Cuddalore 297.

Tirupur logged 169 cases and at 130, the single-day bump at Nilgiris went past 100 for the first time since the onset of the pandemic.

According to the bulletin, the number of active cases stood at 46,703.

A total of 64,74,656 samples have been tested till date of which a whopping 86,073 were tested over the last 24 hours.
