State Bank employees' protest

The employees of all the associate banks of SBI are protesting under the banner of All India Bank Employees Association against the proposal of merging all associate banks with State bank of India.

The five associate banks of SBI are State Bank of Bikaner & Jaipur, State Bank of Hyderabad, State Bank of Mysore, State Bank of Patiala and State Bank of Travancore.

The 45,000 employees of the associate banks have joined together to condemn the decision of collaboration, they have unanimously declared a nation wide strike on July 12th and 13th.

In a meeting today, KS Krishna, general secretary of the state sector bank employees association headed the meeting convened by the bank employees union to discuss on the pressing issue of amalgamation. They claimed that the associate banks if merged with SBI would create huge levels of customer dissatisfaction and will halt new employment opportunities in the banks for at least five years. The acquisition plan would benefit the corporate's and large scale business enterprises but not the public, they proclaimed.

They have already put forth their views on the the issue with the Central Minister, Pon Radhakrsihnan. currently the union has decided to escalate the issue to the State Chief Minister Dr. J. Jayalalaitha.
