TNAU predicts prices for Small Onion

With the onset of South West monsoon, the price of small onions might shoot up, says the Centre for Agricultural and Rural Development studies (CARDS), TNAU. The department has issued critical data to all Small Onion cultivators around Tamil Nadu. The data has been meticulously derived from the last 13 years statistical data, the predicted wholesale prices for small onion for July and  August 2016 would vary between Rs. 32-35 per kg and also expected to rise up to Rs.50 per kg.

The districts in Tamil Nadu involved in the cultivation of small onion are Dindigul, Tiruppur, Perambalur, Trichy and Namakkal with a productivity of 12 tonnes per hectare. A sizeable volume is also exported to Sri Lanka, Singapore, Malaysia and Gulf countries.
