Meeting conducted by City Police Commissioner to avoid traffic congestions in school zones

The City Police have been continuously planning and monitoring the traffic congestions in the city.  As the schools in the city have just re-opened after the long summer break, traffic congestions have already begun around the school zones.

Yesterday, a meeting was convened by City Police Commissioner Mr. A. Amalraj along with Deputy Commissioners of Police (Traffic) R. Sivakumar  and Deputy Commissioners of Police (Headquarters) Pa. Moorthy, Chief Education Officer N. Arul Murugan, traffic police officers and correspondents and principals of schools, focussing on effective steps to be taken for controlling and regularising traffic in the city, especially around school zones.

In the first phase, 14 schools in the hot zones of Trichy Road, Avinashi Road, Sathy Road, DB Road and Thadagam Road were identified and various measures like diverting traffic in these zones were discussed, some of the key points were:-

  • Altering school timings.

  • The pick and drop vehicles usually are not allowed inside the school premises, this makes the entire roads non commutable to the public. Hence, schools have been advised to allow these vehicles inside the school so that the road remains accessible for public.

  • To take alternate routes/roads. Some schools heads had suggested that there are no alternative routes for them to take since they are on the main roads.

  • Creating new exit gates and widening the existing entry gates.

Overall a fruitful meeting was conducted and constructive measures have been discussed.
