Dead but still alive

The awareness of organ donation among the people is very much more nowadays. On 30th May, a 33-year-old man hailing from Thumbalapatti village of Salem district met an accident while riding on his two-wheeler. He had sustained head injury as he was not wearing a helmet.

He was referred immediately to KMCH Coimbatore from the hospital in Salem on June 8th, 2016 and was declared brain dead.

A gesture far beyond appreciation was shown by his wife Vijayakumari by showing consent for donating his organ. His liver and a kidney were transplanted to two patients in KMCH, another kidney to a patient in PSG hospital, heart and lungs to patients in Fortis and Global hospitals and skin to a patient in Ganga hospital.
