Tourist Spots Across Tamil Nadu to Remain Closed on April 23 Election Day

Tamil Nadu's popular tourist destinations including hill stations, beaches, and heritage sites will remain shut on April 23, coinciding with the state election day, as authorities implement election-related restrictions to ensure smooth conduct of polling across all constituencies.


Coimbatore: All tourist destinations across Tamil Nadu will remain closed to visitors on April 23, which coincides with the state election day, according to an official announcement by the state tourism department.

The closure will affect popular destinations including hill stations like Ooty, Kodaikanal, and Yercaud, coastal attractions such as Marina Beach and Mahabalipuram, as well as heritage sites and museums across the state. The measure has been implemented to facilitate smooth conduct of elections and ensure that security personnel and administrative staff can focus entirely on election duties.

Tourism department officials stated that the temporary shutdown is a standard protocol during election days to avoid unnecessary movement of people and vehicles in tourist areas. This helps election officials maintain better control over law and order situations and ensures that polling arrangements remain undisturbed.

Hotels and resorts in these tourist destinations will continue to operate for guests who have prior bookings, but entry to tourist spots, viewpoints, botanical gardens, and other attractions will be restricted. The restrictions will be lifted from April 24, and normal operations will resume for all tourist facilities.

Local tourism industry representatives have urged visitors to plan their trips accordingly and avoid traveling to tourist destinations on the election day. They have assured tourists that full services will be available before and after April 23.

The state election commission has coordinated with the tourism department to ensure proper communication of these restrictions through various channels including social media, travel portals, and tourism information centers.
