8 year old boy drowned in River Bhavani

Eight-year-old M. Elango drowned in River Bhavani on Sunday evening.

The Vellipalayam resident accompanied his grandmother Pappathiammal to the river as the latter wanted to wash clothes.

While she was washing, the boy entered the river for a bath. Soon thereafter, he drowned, said the Mettupalayam Police, adding that efforts to save the third standard student by the people who heard Pappathiammal’s cries for help failed.

They rushed him to the Mettupalayam Government Hospital, where the doctors declared that the boy had died. The police have registered a case in this connection.
