A challenge for CBSE students

While State board students, who have completed Plus-Two this year, are busy applying for colleges in the city, students from the CBSE board are eagerly awaiting their results.

An issue which the CBSE students face almost every year is admission to local colleges.

Their results always come out a little late

“By the time the results are out, colleges are left with only a few seats,” says R. Subhalakshmi, a second year student from an Arts and Science College in the city.

“I faced this problem last year. Even though my marks were above the cut-off for my course, I had difficulty in getting a seat in the college that I wanted because my results came late,” she says.

CBSE releases its results usually by the end of May. So, many colleges asked us to pay and book seats prior to our results, to get an admission in the college.

The choice of college was based on the marks that I secured, and that is why, I did not want to make a final decision on it before my results, says N. Nisha, who is doing BBA in the city.

A. Naveen, another CBSE student, says that results of both streams should be released the same day.

Or the admission process should start only after both the results are announced. We face this problem every year, says a teacher from a CBSE school in the city.

He explains that CBSE results come out last.So our students get the seats that remain vacant, if any. The worst affected are the ones who score less.

The method of weighing marks of students from different boards on the same scale is a major concern, he adds.

“My senior faced the same problem. She advised to me to apply for colleges earlier so that there is no confusion. Even then, admission into a college is confirmed only after the results are out, so there is no way out,” says M. Rajashri, a BBA student from an arts and science college in the city.

A private institution here says some colleges do keep some seats reserved for CBSE students though it is limited compared to the options available for students of the State board.

Results likely on May 23

Unconfirmed reports indicated that the CBSE results are likely to be published on May 23.
