Traders not impressed by the manifestos released by political parties

The manifestos released by political parties with promises for different segments of the electorate do not seem to have impressed the industries in the region.

The focus is on welfare measures and not on industrial development, says a textile sector representative. Some political parties did take inputs from the industry on issues such as Value Added Tax, electricity, etc.

But, hardly any party has made an announcement on these, the representative says.

“None have spoken much about micro, small and medium-scale enterprises,” says a pumpset manufacturer here. The manifestos have promises for agricultural sector, students, and women. But, there is nothing specific for MSMEs or industries.

All the parties seem to be on the same platform on some issues. What is significant is how the new Government will effectively implement the promises in the manifesto of the respective party. Political parties should look at investor-friendly measures. Single window system should be available with online application. Some States have such a system, according to a pumpset dealer.

The trade and industry is willing to provide all the required details. But, the entire processing for a new venture should be done online and through single window system.

It is one important demand of the industry, the dealer says.

Political parties do have meetings with the industry before the elections and industry heads also submit their demands to the party leaders.

But, these are mostly not included in the manifestos released by the parties.

There should be a detailed study of the industries in each region in the State and their needs and these should be addressed for industrial growth, says the industry heads.

This year, some parties and candidates have come out with Assembly specific or district-specific manifestos. But, even these do not seem to address the actual requirements of the industry.
