Electronic voting machines, control units dispatched to Assembly segments

The 5,137 Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and 3,348 control units to be used for the elections in the 2,911 polling booths in all the 10 Assembly segments in the district were dispatched from the office of the Joint Director of Health Services on Thursday.

The EVMs and control units that were used in the Jharkhand and Bihar elections were checked and those found faulty were repaired and stored at the Joint Director of Health Services office at Race Course, over the last few weeks. On Thursday, the units were despatched in the presence of District Electoral Officer Archana Patnaik.

Following are the number of EVMs and control units that were sent to all the 10 Assembly segments: Mettupalayam - 312 booths, 718 EVMs and 359 control units; Sulur - 314 booths, 361 EVMs and as many control units; Kavundampalayam - 407 booths, 936 EVMs and 468 control units; Coimbatore North - 285 booths, 328 EVMs and as many control units.

Thondamuthur - 264 booths, 607 EVMs and 304 control units; Coimbatore South - 256 booths, 589 EVMs and 294 control units; Singanallur - 317 booths, 729 EVMs and 365 control units; Kinathukadavu - 280 booths, 322 EVMs and as many control units; Pollachi - 256 booths, 294 EVMs and as many control units; Valparai - 220 booths, 253 EVMs and as many control units.

These units were taken to high security storage places at one each per Assembly segment and will be distributed to the booths ahead of the polls.

Booth slips

Issuance of booth slips was kick started by the general observer for the elections for Coimbatore district, Bharat Chandra Saha, at Nehru Nagar in Ramanathapuram that falls under Coimbatore South Assembly segment on Thursday. Slips will be issued by the booth level officers in all the 2,911 booths in the district and will be completed by May 11.

The Nilgiris

In the three Assembly segments in The Nilgiris district, booth slips will be issued door to door by the booth level officers from Friday to Monday. Persons who find any mistakes in the booth slips with pictures can inform the toll free number for the elections at the District Collectorate at 1800-425-2781 or in the mobile number 89037-61154.
