Man awarded three years rigorous imprisonment for abetting wife's suicide

A 41-year-old man was sentenced to three years imprisonment for abetting his wife's suicide. Kajah Moideen worked as a daily wager in Mettupalayam. He was married to Fathima Beevi, 23, after he fell in love with her. But after a few months, she found out that Kajah was already married to another woman in 2007.

The couple fought frequently over this and on April 18, 2011, she poured kerosene on herself and set herself ablaze. She died in the hospital and her mother filed a complaint.

The revenue divisional officer conducted an enquiry as she died within 7 years of the marriage. Kajah was booked under various sections and arrested. He has been out on bail since then.

On Wednesday, district mahila court judge sentenced Kajah Moideen to three years imprisonment and asked him to pay a fine of 5000.
