Lorries mows down two daughters of Special Sub-Inspector

Two daughters of a policeman died on the spot when a cement mixer lorry ran over them, on the Madukkarai Market to Sundarapuram Road, on Monday morning. The policeman escaped with injuries and was hospitalised. The Special Sub-Inspector (SSI) V. Jayaprakash (50) was riding a scooter while the two daughters were pillion riders.

The victims were identified as J. Indupriya (21), a final year B.E. EEE student in a private college here, and J. Pooja (19), a third year student in an ayurveda college.

The SSI was in the District Crime Branch unit.

The family lives in Iswarya Nagar, near KG Chavadi at the outskirts of the city. On Monday, he was taking the girls to apply for their passport.

Traffic Investigation Wing, West sub-division inspector K.P. Shanthi said that Jayaprakash was heading to Coimbatore.

Near Meenakshi School, he tried to overtake a concrete mixer lorry through the right side of that heavy vehicle.

“The lorry driver without any indication turned the vehicle to the right side of the road to reach his company. The lorry hit the scooter forcing the trio to fall on the road. The rear wheels of the truck ran over the two girls leaving them dead on the spot,” Ms. Shanthi said.

Jayaprakash was admitted in a private hospital.

The SSI suffered minor injuries and was out of danger. But, he was in a state of shock.
