Poverty pushes coolie to commit suicide

In a tragic incident, a 43-year-old coolie, whose family was hit by financial issues, committed suicide by hanging at his residence at Pollachi in Coimbatore, on Thursday.

According to police, the deceased, K. Muruganandha Kumar, a resident of Kanjampatti, was working as a coolie. He got married to M. Vennila (25) about 7 years ago. The couple had two daughters.

The family was constantly struggling due to financial scarcity, with Muruganandha Kumar as the only breadwinner. This used to lead to frequent quarrels between him and his wife. Frustrated by it, Kumar allegedly committed suicide at his residence in Pollachi, Coimbatore, on Thursday.

A case has been registered by the Pollachi police and investigations are on.
