Coimbatore Mayor Ranganayaki Ramachandran launched the expanded Kamarajar breakfast scheme on September 22, 2026, at Ganapathy Ramakrishnapuram Corporation Middle School in North Zone Ward 20, serving students from classes 6 to 8. The launch followed Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay's announcement extending the scheme across all districts. While 210 students from classes 1 to 5 already benefit from the programme at this school, the expansion now covers an additional 135 students from classes 5 to 8. Mayor Ranganayaki lit the traditional lamp, served food to students, and dined with them before watching cultural performances and a karate demonstration by the children.
Coimbatore: Coimbatore Mayor Ranganayaki Ramachandran launched the expanded Perunthalaivar Kamarajar breakfast scheme for students from classes 6 to 8 at Ganapathy, Ramakrishnapuram Corporation Middle School, falling under North Zone Ward 20 of Coimbatore Corporation, on September 22, 2026, by lighting the traditional lamp.
The launch came on the same day Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay inaugurated the expansion of the Perunthalaivar Kamarajar breakfast scheme, following which the programme was launched across all districts of the state. Ganapathy, Ramakrishnapuram Corporation Middle School, one of the schools under Coimbatore Corporation, saw Mayor Ranganayaki attend the launch, light the ceremonial lamp, and personally serve food to the students before sitting with them to have the meal.
At this school, 210 students studying from class 1 to class 5 have already been benefiting from the scheme. With the expansion launched today, 135 students studying from class 5 to class 8 at the same school will now also receive the benefit.
Following the launch, Mayor Ranganayaki also watched cultural performances and a karate self-defence demonstration presented by the students of the school.
The event was attended by North Zone Chairman V Kathirvel, council member Mariaraj, Assistant Commissioner Mohanasundari, Assistant Executive Engineer Sathyamoorthy (Public), Zonal Health Officer Murugan, Assistant Engineer Sakthivel, Health Inspector Saranya, school headmaster Anandakumar, and several Corporation officials.
