Two More Arrested in Coimbatore Industrialist Kidnapping Case; Nine Held So Far

Two more accused have been arrested in connection with the alleged kidnapping of a Coimbatore industrialist for a ₹2 crore ransom. With the latest arrests, all nine accused linked to the case have been arrested and remanded in judicial custody, police said.

Coimbatore: Two more accused have been arrested in connection with the alleged kidnapping of an industrialist in Coimbatore for a ₹2 crore ransom, taking the total number of arrests in the case to nine.

According to police, the victim, who had been involved in the business of buying and selling old cars for around 10 years, was allegedly abducted on the morning of July 5, 2026, while he was standing near his newly constructed house within the limits of E1 Singanallur police station.

Police said five men arrived in a grey Maruti Ertiga, forcibly took the victim into the vehicle, assaulted him, tied a cloth around his mouth and allegedly threatened him while demanding ₹2 crore.

Based on the victim’s complaint, E1 Singanallur police registered a case and launched an investigation.

During the investigation, police identified the vehicle allegedly used in the kidnapping and traced its registration details. Investigators also identified the key persons allegedly involved in planning the kidnapping for ransom, along with others who allegedly assisted them.

Police said the investigation revealed the involvement of Karthi alias Police Karthi, his wife Alika Nisha, Vimal and Dheena alias Dinakaran in the case. It also revealed that individuals from Tiruchirappalli and Tirunelveli districts had allegedly assisted in the offence.

Seven accused had already been arrested and remanded in judicial custody. They were identified as Vairaperumal (30), Punniyamurthy (25), Karthi alias Police Karthi (43), Alika Nisha (40), Dheena alias Dinakaran (44), Madhan (26) and Karuli alias Karuppusamy Raja (24).

Following continued surveillance and investigation, police traced two more accused who had allegedly been absconding. Anbu (30) and Vimal (44) were arrested on August 31, 2026, and subsequently produced before the court and remanded in judicial custody.

With these arrests, all nine accused linked to the case have been arrested and remanded in judicial custody, police said.

Police further stated that Madhan, one of the accused, has a criminal history involving several murder cases and is a history-sheeted offender. Action has also been initiated against Karthi alias Police Karthi under the Goondas Act, according to police.
