Man Arrested Over Social Media Post on Lord Murugan in Coimbatore

Coimbatore police arrested a 31-year-old man from Kanniyakumari district residing in Rakkipalayam, Coimbatore after a complaint alleged that a social media account carried objectionable comments and images about Murugan and Hinduism. He was produced before a court and remanded in judicial custody.

Coimbatore district police have arrested a 31-year-old man following a complaint alleging that objectionable content about Murugan and Hinduism was posted on a social media account.

According to the complaint filed by Sankar, 35, of Periyanaickenpalayam, the social media account “Michel Michel-offl” had allegedly published a post containing objectionable words and an image relating to Murugan. The complaint also alleged that derogatory comments about Hinduism had been posted on the account.

The complainant alleged that the posts could hurt religious sentiments and potentially create hostility between communities, affecting social harmony and public peace.

Based on the complaint, Periyanaickenpalayam police registered a case and initiated an investigation. During the investigation, police identified the person who allegedly made the posts as Michel Raj, 31, from Kanniyakumari district, who was residing in the Rakkipalayam area of Coimbatore.

Police subsequently arrested Michel Raj and produced him before a court. He was later remanded in judicial custody.

According to the police, Michel Raj is the son of Soosai Mariyan of Maruthoor Kurichi, Kalkulam, Kanniyakumari district.

Coimbatore district police said legal action would be taken against those who publish content on social media that hurts religious sentiments or affects religious harmony and public peace.
