Southern Railway has announced weekly special trains between Ernakulam Junction and SMVT Bengaluru via Podanur, Tiruppur, Erode and Salem to accommodate the surge in passenger traffic during the Onam festival season.
Coimbatore: To cater to the increased passenger demand during the Onam festival, Southern Railway has announced the operation of weekly special trains between Ernakulam Junction and SMVT Bengaluru via Podanur, Tiruppur, Erode and Salem.
Accordingly, Train No. 06147 Ernakulam Junction – SMVT Bengaluru Weekly Special will depart Ernakulam Junction at 11.10 p.m. every Sunday from August 9 to September 6, 2026 (five services), and arrive at SMVT Bengaluru at 12.45 p.m. the following day.
In the return direction, Train No. 06148 SMVT Bengaluru – Ernakulam Junction Weekly Special will leave SMVT Bengaluru at 4 p.m. every Monday from August 10 to September 7, 2026 (five services), reaching Ernakulam Junction at 5.45 a.m. the next day.
The special trains will comprise AC Two-Tier, AC Three-Tier, AC Three-Tier Economy, Sleeper Class and General Second Class coaches. En route, the trains will halt at Aluva, Thrissur, Palakkad, Podanur, Tiruppur, Erode, Salem, Kuppam, Bangarapet and Krishnarajapuram.
According to the schedule, the Ernakulam–Bengaluru service will reach Podanur at 3.18 a.m., Tiruppur at 4.13 a.m., Erode at 5.10 a.m. and Salem at 6.25 a.m. on Mondays. The return service will depart Salem at 9.25 p.m., Erode at 10.35 p.m., Tiruppur at 11.23 p.m. on Mondays and reach Podanur at 12.40 a.m. on Tuesdays.
