BJP's Annamalai Condemns Obstruction of Perur Patteeswarar Temple Chariot Festival

BJP's former state president Annamalai has condemned the denial of no-objection certificate by PWD officials for the Panguni Uthiram chariot festival at the thousand-year-old Perur Patteeswarar Temple in Coimbatore, scheduled for March 29, demanding immediate permissions from the DMK government.

Coimbatore: BJP's former Tamil Nadu state president Annamalai has strongly condemned the reported denial of a no-objection certificate for the Panguni Uthiram chariot festival at the historicPerur Patteeswarar Temple in Coimbatore.

In a statement issued on March 24, Annamalai expressed his outrage over the Public Works Department (PWD) official's alleged refusal to grant the necessary clearance for the temple's traditional chariot festival, which is scheduled to take place on March 29.

ThePerur Patteeswarar Temple, which is over a thousand years old, has been celebrating the Panguni Uthiram chariot festival for several centuries as part of its spiritual tradition. This annual event holds immense religious significance for devotees in the region.

Annamalai stated that the denial of permission for this centuries-old festival is highly condemnable. He criticized the DMK government for attempting to obstruct the festival, especially at a time when it is nearing the end of its tenure, thereby hurting the sentiments of devotees.

"The attempt by the DMK government to prevent the centuries-old Panguni Uthiram chariot festival, causing distress to devotees even as their administration comes to an end, is completely unacceptable," Annamalai said in his statement.

The BJP leader has urged the DMK government to immediately grant all necessary permissions to ensure the chariot procession proceeds without any hindrance. He emphasized that such traditional religious festivals should not face administrative obstacles.
