Hindu Makkal Katchi Submits Petition to District Collector Demanding Immediate Action on Waterlogging

Hindu Makkal Katchi submits petition to Coimbatore District Collector, urging immediate action to address severe waterlogging and sewage mixing with rainwater in Coimbatore and surrounding areas following a week of heavy rainfall.

Coimbatore: The Hindu Makkal Katchi submitted a petition to the Coimbatore District Collector today, demanding urgent action to address the severe waterlogging issues plaguing Coimbatore and its surrounding areas. The petition, led by the party's district general secretary Surya, highlighted the unprecedented accumulation of rainwater mixed with sewage in various parts of the city.

The petition noted that Coimbatore has been experiencing heavy rainfall for the past week, resulting in waterlogging on a scale never seen before in the city. While acknowledging that Coimbatore has traditionally maintained its drainage systems efficiently, the party pointed out several areas of concern.

The most affected areas include Lakshmi Mills Road, Sivananda Colony Bridge, Ukkadam Vegetable Market, and Selvapuram, where significant water stagnation has been reported. The petition also raised alarm over sewage water mixing with rainwater and entering residential areas in many locations. In parts of Singanallur, water has even entered houses, causing distress to residents.

The Hindu Makkal Katchi urged the District Collector to take immediate action on a war footing. Their demands include:

1. Deployment of high-capacity motors to pump out stagnant rainwater from affected areas.

2. Immediate commencement of relief work in residential areas where sewage water has accumulated.

3. Urgent dispatch of first-aid and rescue teams to affected localities.

The party emphasized the need for swift action to mitigate the suffering of residents and prevent potential health hazards due to the mixing of sewage with rainwater. They called upon the district administration to prioritize these issues and implement effective solutions to restore normalcy in the affected areas of Coimbatore.
