Plea to Address Deficiencies in Perur Periyakulam's Surplus Weir

Kovai Kulangal Padhukappu Amaippu urges officials to fix issues with the surplus weir of Perur Periyakulam, a tank under the Noyyal Project, to prevent water loss and maintain full capacity.

Coimbatore: The Kovai Kulangal Padhukappu Amaippu has appealed to district officials to address the deficiencies in the surplus weir of Perur Periyakulam, one of the tanks under the Noyyal Project in Coimbatore district.

Perur Periyakulam has two surplus weirs, with one measuring 86 feet located near the Perur Siruvani Road.

The association pointed out that before the tank reaches its maximum water level, water escapes through a nearby Perur Panchayat sewage channel structure. This has resulted in a reduction of the tank's water spread area by 9 inches from 1.072 sq km, leading to a loss of 24 crore liters of water storage capacity.

The association has requested officials to ensure that the tank maintains its full capacity during the inflow season. They have also urged for immediate action to prevent water from escaping through the sewage channel near the surplus weir.

The appeal was addressed to the District Collector, the Executive Engineer of the Water Resources Department in Bhavanisagar, and the Assistant Executive Engineer of the Noyyal Irrigation Sub-Division, Water Resources Department, Coimbatore.

The Kovai Kulangal Padhukappu Amaippu emphasized the need for urgent measures to preserve the tank's water storage capacity and prevent unnecessary water loss.
