SDPI Protests Against Electricity Tariff Hike in Mettupalayam

The Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) staged a demonstration in front of Mettupalayam bus stand, Coimbatore district, protesting against the recent electricity tariff hike by the Tamil Nadu government.

Coimbatore: The Social Democratic Party of India (SDPJ) staged a protest in front of the Mettupalayam bus stand against the recent electricity tariff hike implemented by the Tamil Nadu government. The demonstration, led by SDPI State Secretary Abubakar Siddique, saw the participation of over 100 people, including women.

The protesters condemned the state government's successive increases in electricity charges and property taxes, arguing that these hikes severely affect the poor, underprivileged, and middle-class citizens. They demanded the immediate rollback of the increased electricity tariffs and other tax hikes.

The SDPI also urged the DMK government to fulfill its election promise of implementing monthly electricity billing. Demonstrators raised slogans criticizing the Tamil Nadu government and emphasizing their demands for the withdrawal of the tariff hike and the implementation of monthly electricity meter reading and billing.

The protest highlighted the growing discontent among citizens regarding the rising cost of living, particularly in the context of utility bills and taxes. The SDPI's demonstration in Mettupalayam reflects the broader concerns of residents in Coimbatore district and across Tamil Nadu about the impact of these financial burdens on their daily lives.
