50 percent Subsidy on Bengalgram Seeds in Kinathukadavu

Kinathukadavu agricultural department announces 50 percent subsidy on Bengalgram seeds, aiming to increase cultivation area from 30 to 100 hectares this year, benefiting local farmers.

Coimbatore: The Agricultural Department of Kinathukadavu has announced a 50% subsidy on Bengalgram seeds to boost cultivation in the region. This initiative aims to support farmers and increase the Bengalgram cultivation area from last year's 30 hectares to the usual 100 hectares.

Typically, Bengalgram is cultivated on 100 hectares annually in the Kinathukadavu region. However, due to reduced rainfall last year, the cultivation area was limited to only 30 hectares. The agricultural department is optimistic that with favorable northeast monsoon rains this year, farmers can achieve the full 100-hectare cultivation target.

Bengalgram cultivation is predominantly carried out in the Jaggarpalayam and North Pollachi areas. The agriculture department has encouraged farmers to begin Bengalgram cultivation, anticipating good monsoon conditions.

The 50% subsidy covers not only Bengalgram seeds but also liquid bio-fertilizers such as Rhizobium and Phosphobacteria, as well as essential micronutrients for the crops. This comprehensive support aims to ensure better crop yield and quality.

Ananthakumar, Assistant Director of Agriculture, and Mohanasundaram, Deputy Agricultural Officer of Kinathukadavu, announced on October 10 that sufficient stock of Bengalgram seeds is available at the agricultural department office. They have invited interested farmers to visit the office and avail themselves of the subsidized seeds and other inputs.

This initiative is expected to revitalize Bengalgram cultivation in the region, providing a significant boost to the local agricultural economy and supporting farmers in their efforts to maximize crop production.
