Heavy Rainfall Lashes Coimbatore District

Coimbatore experiences heavy rainfall from afternoon on October 9, as predicted by Chennai Meteorological Center. Various areas in the city and suburbs witness continuous downpour.

Coimbatore: Heavy rainfall has been lashing various parts of Coimbatore district since this afternoon, fulfilling the forecast made by the Chennai Meteorological Center.

The district has been experiencing rainfall in various locations for the past week. The Chennai Meteorological Center had predicted heavy rainfall for Coimbatore city on October 9.

Since afternoon, continuous rain has been pouring over Coimbatore city and its suburban areas without interruption. Several areas are witnessing particularly heavy downpours, including Gandhipuram, Gaundampalayam, Ramanathapuram, Coimbatore Pudur, Ukkadam, Vadavalli, Thondamuthur, Saibaba Colony, Rathinapuri, Sundarapuram, and Singanallur.

It's noteworthy that some areas are also experiencing heavy rain accompanied by strong winds. The sudden intensity of the rainfall has caught many residents off guard, leading to waterlogging in low-lying areas and affecting normal life.

Local authorities are on high alert, monitoring the situation closely to address any potential issues arising from the heavy rainfall. Residents are advised to take necessary precautions and avoid venturing out unless absolutely necessary.

The continuous rainfall is expected to replenish water bodies in the region, which could be beneficial for the district's water resources. However, it also raises concerns about possible flooding in vulnerable areas if the heavy rainfall persists.
