Bus Driver's Heroic Act Saves Passengers Despite Severe Injuries in Tirupur

A private bus driver in Tirupur sustained severe injuries when the windshield shattered due to strong winds. Despite his injuries, he safely maneuvered the bus to safety, saving over 60 passengers.


Tirupur: In a display of extraordinary courage and presence of mind, a private bus driver saved the lives of over 60 passengers despite sustaining severe injuries when the bus windshield shattered unexpectedly. The incident, which occurred on the 1st of this month, has since gone viral on social media platforms, with CCTV footage capturing the dramatic moments.

The ASM private bus was en route from Tirupur to Coimbatore, driven by 32-year-old Surendran from Thondamuthur. As the bus was traveling along the Avinashi bypass road, strong winds caused the front windshield to suddenly shatter, sending glass shards flying towards the driver.

Surendran suffered significant injuries to his head, hands, and legs from the shattered glass. However, prioritizing the safety of his passengers over his own well-being, he skillfully maneuvered the bus to the roadside, bringing it to a safe stop.

Passengers, deeply moved by the driver's selfless act, immediately rushed him to a nearby hospital for first aid treatment. They showered him with praise for his quick thinking and bravery in the face of danger.

The entire incident was captured by the bus's onboard surveillance camera. The footage, which has since been widely shared on social media, shows the harrowing moments of the windshield shattering and Surendran's remarkable composure as he safely steered the vehicle to a halt.

This route between Coimbatore and Tirupur is a busy corridor, with thousands of passengers commuting daily for work, school, and college. Hundreds of government and private buses ply this route to cater to the high demand.

As news of Surendran's heroic act spreads, there has been an outpouring of appreciation from the public, recognizing his exceptional dedication to passenger safety even in the most challenging circumstances.
