Two jewelry workers accused of Rs 28 lakh gold fraud in Coimbatore

Two jewelry workers in Coimbatore allegedly absconded with 400 grams of gold worth Rs 28 lakh. The incident occurred at a jewelry workshop in R.S. Puram, leading to a police complaint and ongoing search.

Coimbatore: In a shocking incident of workplace theft, two jewelry workers have been accused of absconding with gold worth Rs 28 lakh from a jewelry workshop in Coimbatore. The incident has sent ripples through the local jewelry industry and prompted a police investigation.

Manikandan (47), a resident of Thiyagi Kumaran Street in R.S. Puram, Coimbatore, owns and operates a jewelry workshop. For the past decade, he has employed Mansadoli, a worker from North India. Recently, Mansadoli's brother Loko Doli and his friend Biswajit Doli joined Manikandan's workshop through Mansadoli's recommendation.

Manikandan entrusted the two new workers, Loko Doli and Biswajit Doli, with 400 grams of gold to craft earrings. However, the duo disappeared with the precious metal, estimated to be worth Rs 28 lakh. The sudden disappearance of the workers along with the valuable gold has left Manikandan in a state of shock and financial distress.

Upon realizing the theft, Manikandan promptly filed a complaint with the R.S. Puram police station on October 6. Sub-Inspector Ilango has registered a case and initiated an investigation into the matter. The police are currently conducting a search operation to locate and apprehend the two absconding workers.

This incident highlights the risks faced by jewelry workshop owners and the need for stringent security measures in the industry. It also serves as a cautionary tale about the importance of thorough background checks when hiring new employees, especially in businesses dealing with high-value materials.

As the investigation unfolds, local jewelers are on high alert, and the police are urging anyone with information about the whereabouts of Loko Doli and Biswajit Doli to come forward. The case continues to develop as authorities work to recover the stolen gold and bring the accused to justice.
