Illegal Liquor Shops Thrive Near TASMAC Outlets in Udumalpet, Public Outrage Grows

Unauthorized liquor shops near TASMAC outlets in Udumalpet, Tiruppur district, operate beyond permitted hours, causing public nuisance. Residents threaten road blockade as police ignore complaints.

Coimbatore: Illegal liquor shops operating near government-run TASMAC outlets in Udumalpet, Tiruppur district, are thriving, causing significant distress to local residents. These unauthorized establishments are conducting brisk business from 6 AM to 12 PM and again from 10 PM to midnight, flouting regulations and creating public nuisance.

Several such illegal shops have been identified near TASMAC outlets, including one behind Anusham Theater (TASMAC shop no. 2021), opposite the park on Rajendra Road (shop no. 2016), across from Urban Bank (shop no. 2022), and near the outlet on Dharapuram Road. These unlicensed vendors are capitalizing on the proximity to authorized outlets to conduct their illicit trade.

The rampant sale of liquor during early morning hours has become a significant concern for the public, especially affecting daily commuters and nearby residents. Despite numerous complaints lodged with both the Udumalpet Police and the Dharapuram Prohibition Enforcement Wing, authorities have reportedly failed to take decisive action against these illegal operations.

Frustrated with the lack of response from law enforcement, local residents are now contemplating staging a road blockade protest. They hope this drastic step will compel the authorities to address the issue and shut down these unauthorized liquor shops operating near TASMAC outlets.

The situation highlights the growing tension between the local community and law enforcement agencies, as well as the challenges in regulating alcohol sales in the region. As public anger mounts, it remains to be seen how quickly and effectively the authorities will respond to curb this illegal activity and restore order in Udumalpet.
